A Christmas Greeting to All...
(banner inspired by horia's request for a christmas banner)
...and, let's not forget, that Christmas is a celebration of an ideal personified by the 'Christ' in 'Christmas'. One doesn't have to be 'Christian' to celebrate this ideal - 'Loving your neighbour as you would yourself' - just as one does not have to be Buddhist, or Muslim, or Hindu, or etc, to celebrate the ideals espoused by related teachings.
'Tis a season of Love, Giving and Humility - a corollary of that
personified or illustrated via a birth in a manger under a star 2000 years
ago. You don't have to take him as a 'God' or 'Son of God' to celebrate
these ideals. Take it as a blockbuster production of an old story which
imparts some significant lessons for and of the potentials of Humanity if you
will. From this story may be extrapolated the contemporary appreciation
of, amongst others, 'Santa', magnanimity and gift-giving during Christmas - and
reinforced from other angles by other faiths during the course of the year.
'Son of God' to some, 'Deity' to others, but most certainly, a damn fine
example of Love, Giving, Humility and Egalitarianism whether we take him
as one or the other. I'm not constrained by terms - muslim, christianity,
hinduism, buddhist, jain, sikh, etc - but have freed myself to appreciate
the potentials of what these terms refer to despite them.
That's Perspectival Correctness for you;)
Hence, I'm not going to say, 'Happy Holidays', but....
....Merry Christmas, to All :)
...with a special one going out to all my neighbours, &, of course, a smile and a 'thanks for being' to the birthday boy, Baby J!
